Food Allergies
Dr. Kaur is experienced in assessment and management of infants, children and adolescents with food, drug and insect allergies, eczema of any severity, delayed food/gut allergies and intolerances, Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE), Food Protein Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES), asthma, allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and immunological conditions. She organizes the required investigations at the time of consultation, such as skin prick (allergy tests) for food and aeroallergen allergiesand provides a copy of results on the same day.
Eczema and asthma
Dr. Kaur provides care for infants and children with eczema of any severity and asthma.
Eczema (also known as atopic dermatitis) is most common in infants; can also occur in older children and adults but usually improves with age. It affects the skin, causing redness, itching, oozing and over time rough hard thickened skin may occur. It is a disease that gets better or worse over the space of days, weeks and/or months. When eczema worsens this is called an eczema flare. Usually there is no single factor responsible for an eczema flare.
Many infants with moderate or severe eczema will also have an immediate allergy to food(s). This does not mean that the food allergy is the cause of the eczema and therefore removal of the food(s) will not result in eczema cure, but will prevent the child from having an immediate reaction (e.g. hives, swelling, breathing difficulty etc) to the foods they are allergic to.
Although eczema can be effectively treated and managed, no cures are currently available.

Food Challenges
Dr. Kaur can arrange food challenges through the practice. Food allergen challenges should only be performed in carefully selected patients by a clinical immunology/allergy specialist. These are performed to:
- Determine is a person has outgrown an existing food allergy.
- Identify a suspected food allergy when the history or allergy tests are unclear.
- Determine if a person with a positive allergy test to a food (that they have never actually eaten) has a true food allergy.
A supervised food allergen challenge is a procedure where small and increasing amounts of a particular food are fed to a person while under medical supervision. The person is monitored to determine if the food being tested causes an allergic reaction. Most food allergen challenges involve a time period of about 2 to 3 hours to eat the required doses of food, followed by 1-2 hours of medical observation.

Allergic Rhinoconjuctivitis and Immunotherapy
Allergic rhinitis (commonly known as hay fever) affects around 18% of people (children and adults) in Australia and New Zealand. Despite its common name, allergic rhinitis is not caused by hay and does not result in fever. It is caused by the nose and/or eyes coming into contact with environmental allergens, such as pollens, dust mite, moulds and animal hair.
Dr. Kaur is experienced in managing allergic rhino conjunctivitis including immunotherapy (desensitisation). Immunotherapy is available in 2 forms – Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) under the tongue and Subcutaneous Immunotherapy (SCIT) in the form of injections.
